Giles Coren... oh dear, oh bloody dear.

I don't really have to say much here.

Just point you to this link. To be honest I'm only posting this so I can occasionally come back here and remind myself what an absolute almighty appalling tosser sounds like. Just in case I ever forget.

While he is clearly somewhat rude and unpleasant, he also has a point surely. Subs are often rubbish and in this case they really did ruin the quite clever subtlety of what he had written. He's a tosser though, obviously.

I agree with Matthew. He is a bit of a prat - his piece suggesting that public school leavers wouldn't need to go to university to be successful because all university is now is a chance for poorer kids to catch up with the upper classes in terms of social interaction...springs to mind - he definately has a point about subbing.

Although his piece was a bit wanky, it goes to show how much care (albeit misguided) goes into a review/article/feature only to be subbed by some cretin who only managed to get a job at The Times because of daddy. Unlike Giles, of course.

DOH!

how many times has Coren's ass been saved by the subs? And if this guy had any balls whatsoever he'd take it up with the editor. But quite clearly he's a bullying over-privileged popinjay in need of a good old fashioned shoeing.
And, most subs tend to be hardworking, having risen up the ranks. A good sub is hard to find and keep - Coren is just one more pompous writer who thinks they are doing something important.
For the record - he isn't. He reviews restaurants.
